Business English 2

Pronoun Analysis Towards The Opinion About Kemenkominfo’s Decision To Block Tumblr.

BACKGROUND
Business English is variant of international English specially suited for business purpose. Business English means a different things to different people. For some people it refers to the communication skills for business communication, for example is presentations, negotiations, meetings, socializing, etc. For others, it focuses on vocabulary and topics relate to business.
After I read several articles, it can be concluded that tumblr is microblogging platform. It provides the users to create multimedia contents or others in the form of blog. The user can upload various kinds of multimedia such as video, photo, text, audio, chat, quote, and link.
On March 5th 2018, Kementrian Komunikasi and Informasi (Kemenkominfo), have blocked tumblr and Indonesian citizen can’t go into tumblr. Kemenkominfo found 360 accounts which contain mature contents. They also give a warning to tumblr to clear the negative contents, yet tumblr hasn’t given any respon.
I’m not agree if the government tries to block tumblr. In my opinion tumblr has many positive aspects such as users can upload their activities, experiences, fiction stories, poems, etc. Beside text, users can also use several features such as audios, photos, or videos to make their tumbr become interesting. To access tumblr, users only need domain and not hosting. Tumblr provides features which can help users to upload texts, videos, or photos, so that they won’t get any difficulties for doing so or upload their upload tumblr contents. The tumblr contents can be shared through twitter or facebook. Users can categorized the uploaded photos based on what they want. Tumblr has many templates available. It is mobile application which has a simple and interesting interface. Tumblr doesn’t have many button and navigation, so that it can be easier to use. The negative contents can’t be detected by clicking the report button or icon. The unfriendly search engine becomes the weakness of tumblr because its simplicity.
Every social medias may have sensitive or mature content in it. But the question is why does it only tumblr which get a warning from Kemenkominfo. I think it’s not fair. The government should give all of social medias a warning to delete the sensitive or mature content which have already uploaded by the users. They also should give tumblr more time, as for the example 96 hours to clear or delete those contents as well as to improve the platform itself. As for the positive effect for this warning is Kemenkominfo started to lessen the mature or sensitive contents in social media. The mature content can give several negative effect to the viewers or readers or users such as addicted to alcohol. If they don’t get to drink any alcohol, they will get more emotional and uncontrollable.

Before the warning given, Kemenkominfo should held a survey to find out whether tumblr should be blocked or no. Many people in Indonesia use tumblr to express their feeling in the form of text, photos, audio, video, etc. As for the example Pidi Baiq becomes one of the best writer in Indonesia through tumblr. Based on the background above, the title of this assignment is Pronoun Analysis Towards The Opinion About Kemenkominfo’s Decision To Block Tumblr.

THEORY
On oxforddictionaries.com, pronouns are used in place of a noun that has already been mention or that is already known, often to avoid repeating the noun. In general, they can be divided into various different categories:
1.      Subject Pronouns
2.      Object Pronouns
3.      Possessive Pronouns
4.      Reflexive Pronouns
5.      Relative Pronouns

Subject pronouns replace nouns that are the subject of their clause. In the 3rd person, subject pronouns are often used to avoid repetition of the subject's name. Examples :
·         I am 16.
·         You seem lost.
·         Jim is angry, and he wants Sally to apologize.
·         This table is old. It needs to be repainted.
·         We aren't coming.
·         They don't like pancakes.

Object pronouns are used to replace nouns that are the direct or indirect object of a clause. Examples :
·         Give the book to me.
·         The teacher wants to talk to you.
·         Jake is hurt because Bill hit him.
·         Rachid recieved a letter from her last week.
·         Mark can't find it.
·         Don't be angry with us.
·         Tell them to hurry up.

Possessive pronouns replace possessive nouns as either the subject or the object of a clause. Because the noun being replaced doesn't appear in the sentence, it must be clear from the context. Examples :
·         This bag is mine.
·         Yours is not blue.
·         That bag looks like his.
·         These shoes are not hers.
·         That car is ours.
·         Theirs is parked in the garage.

There are also possessive adjectives which is similar with possessive pronouns. Possessive adjectives are not pronouns, but rather determiners. It is useful to learn them at the same time as pronouns, however, because they are similar in form to the possessive pronouns. Possessive adjectives function as adjectives, so they appear before the noun they modify. They do not replace a noun as pronouns do. Examples :
·         Did mother find my shoes?
·         Mrs. Baker wants to see your homework.
·         Can Jake bring over his baseball cards?
·         Samantha will fix her bike tomorrow.
·         The cat broke its leg.
·         This is our house.
·         Where is their school

Reflexive pronoun uses when we want to refer back to the subject of the sentence or clause. Reflexive pronouns end in "-self" (singular) or "-selves" (plural). Examples :
·         I told myself to calm down.
·         You cut yourself on this nail?
·         He hurt himself on the stairs.
·         She found herself in a dangerous part of town.
·         The cat threw itself under my car!
·         We blame ourselves for the fire.
·         The children can take care of themselves.

Beside all of pronouns above, there are relative pronouns that introduce relative clauses. The most common relative pronouns are who, whom, whose, which, that. The relative pronoun we use depends on what we are referring to and the type of relative clause. Examples :
·         We don’t know the person who donated this money.
·         We drove past my old school, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
·         He went to the school that my father went to.
·    The Kingfisher group, whose name was changed from Woolworths earlier this year, includes about 720 high street shops. Superdrug, which last week announced that it is buying Medicare, is also part of the group.
·         The parents whom/who/that we interviewed were all involved in education in some way.
